Description

This artifact was created in the Spring of 2020 for Dr. Joseph Kush’s GDIT 713 - Computational Thinking course. We were asked to evaluate many coding applications and websites that teach coding to students, which include Scratch, Alice, Swift Playgrounds, Code.org, Daisy the Dino, Hopscotch, Kodable, and Scratch Jr.

I have combined all of my reviews into one document. I evaluated the coding applications and websites that teach coding using an educational app evaluation rubric, as well as evaluating their features, applicability to teacher tasks, lesson compatibility, hardware compatibility, ease of use, cost, and strengths and weaknesses.

Reflection

This artifact demonstrates my ability to assess and evaluate the effective integration of appropriate technologies and instructional materials. The evaluation of coding applications and websites that teach coding was a great experience as I gained knowledge of the process of evaluating applications. It also helped me to think critically and developed my skills in assessing the effectiveness of technologies and their integration into education. Moreover, this assignment helped me to take into account the user experience, understanding the importance of reviewing applications to determine which ones would be best for lessons before integrating them into teaching.
