Description

The artifact was created in the Fall of 2021 for Dr. Sandra Quiñones's GDIT 712 - Ethics and Social Justice in a Digital Age.  We were asked to read the article "Technology for Equity and Social Justice in Education: Introduction to the Special Issue" by Sherry Marx and Yanghee Kim, and then to share our initial thoughts about the article. After reading the introduction, we were asked to choose one article from the special issue and analyze it using the MIND-HEART-HANDS framework. The “mind” component focuses on the content of the journal article and is intended to explore how to understand or interpret the text. The “heart” component involves emotions and explores what resonates with the reader of the article, and the “hands” component incorporates applied practice to the analysis of the reading.

Reflection

Technology has tremendous potential to impact equity and social justice in the field of education (Marx and Kim, 2019). Technology can facilitate learning and make access to schooling possible to support equity and diversity if educators use technology effectively.

This assignment through reading and analysis allowed me to foster an understanding of ethics and social justice from a variety of perspectives and to gain knowledge of the current issues in the research on educational technology. In particular, it helped me to address the issues of equity and multicultural education that challenge educators and students. It is important for educators and professionals in educational technology to know about the creation and use of technology while applying theories of ethics and social justice in education. This knowledge will help them shape their own ethical conduct and professional behavior.

As a current research practitioner and an emerging professional in the field of educational technology. This assignment promoted my ethical and professional responsibility to practice ethical and social justice in my future career. It showed me the importance of following fair use laws for technology and of providing equal access to technological resources for all students. It also developed my knowledge of the issues of ethics, social justice, and multicultural education in the research of educational technology. It helped me to uphold social responsibility as I educate my future community on this important topic. Thus, I believe that this artifact shows my proficiency in AECT’s Standard 1.5.
