AECT Standard 3.3 Assessing/Evaluating
" Candidates use multiple assessment strategies to collect data for informing decisions to improve instructional practice, learner outcomes, and the learning environment." (AECT, 2012)

Artifact 16 - Augmented Reality Project
Description
This artifact was a group project created in the Spring of 2019 for Dr. Misook Heo’s GDIT 719 - Learner Computer Interaction, course. We were asked to create a lesson plan that integrates Augmented Reality (AR). In addition to integrating the AR technology, we were asked to support the lesson with educational technology and use the 5E model.
Reflection
This collaborative project aimed at engaging students in STEM learning and allowing them to explore the content using virtual objects in the AR app. The project integrated AR technology to transfer knowledge of the solar system and to connect what the students learn in the classroom with their real world. One of my contributions to this collaborative work was to create formative and summative assessments (I highlighted my work in this project in yellow color in the PDF document). In designing this lesson, I created and used multiple assessment strategies to improve instructional practice and learner outcomes. I used formative assessments throughout as an alternative method for collecting data from students to improve instructional practice including observations and worksheets with immediate feedback on student responses. In addition, I included questions in interactive PowerPoint to help learners assess their understanding of the content with immediate feedback so that they could evaluate their comprehension. I also used a summative assessment aimed at assessing how students used their learned knowledge, skills, and attitudes from the lesson. In this assessment, students worked in groups to create a "solar system board;" I then assessed their work using a "solar system rubric.” The design and implementation of these activities and assessments helped me to improve my instructional design skills and to plan effective assessment strategies to improve outcomes and the learning environment as a whole.
