AECT Standard 3.5 - Ethics
"Candidates foster a learning environment in which ethics guide practice that promotes health, safety, best practice and respect for copyright, Fair Use, and appropriate open access to resources." (AECT, 2012)

Artifact 18 - Developing Learning Environment
Description
This artifact was created in the Spring of 2019 for GDIT 706 - Creating Learning Environments Using IT course with Dr. David Carbonara. At the end of the course, we were asked to create a learning environment about a topic of our choice, covering two to three sessions of content using the pedagogical and technological knowledge that we have learned during this course.
Reflection
This artifact represents ethics in learning environments. In designing this online learning environment, I practiced respect for copyright, fair use, and appropriate open access to resources. To create this learning environment, I used Blendspace. It is free, and students can easily access the learning materials. The choice to use a free tool to create the online learning environment serves to demonstrate appropriate open access to resources. Blendspace also offers multi-modality within the learning environment with more accessibility for diverse learners and provides opportunities for learners to learn anywhere, at any time, and at their own pace. Additionally, in this online learning environment, learning guidance at the beginning of each session aids students in learning content and how to advance in the course and complete activities. The students can also contact the instructor with any questions or concerns, providing them with instructional support as needed. The sessions provide a variety of media to address different learning preferences, for example, video, Google slides, text with images, and online articles with hyperlinks to access additional online resources. This is all fair use and appropriate open access to resources. Learning activities were also included in the sessions. These enhance learning and encourage instructional strategies based on discussion, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solution, and discovery using technology tools. For instance, Google Docs gives students an opportunity to collaborate on an activity and to work together without the boundaries of space and time. This allows students to share ideas and write them down so that more discussion and thinking can be done. The instructor can also provide real-time feedback. Therefore, I believe that this artifact demonstrates my knowledge about and proficiency in AECT’s standard 3.5 which states that “Candidates foster a learning environment in which ethics guide practice that promotes health, safety, best practice and respect for copyright, Fair Use, and appropriate open access to resources."
